Phone glass manufacturers —— History of 0.33mm glass, CSG, AGC and Corning
Screen protector manufacturers have their own option on glass raw material for the production of tempered glass screen protectors, but regarding the cost performance, it seems China glass is the most popular.
AGC is the earliest glass manufacturers who developed the right glass material for mobile phone tempered glass screen protector production. Due to the advanced technology, AGC enjoyed the absolute market advantage at the beginning and the glass purchasing price was 5 times than nowadays’. Although right now almost every mobile phone screen protector suppliers is claiming they are using AGC glass in their catalog to prove their quality standard, but actually AGC does not have advantage on both price and quality nowadays. Firstall serves some customers with extremely high standard on tempered glass screen protector quality especially glass toughness. However, none of them uses AGC glass. Currently we have few customers appointed AGC glass for their custom size screen protector. Regarding the material cost, AGC is a little bit higher but the price range is not very big.
Xuhong was the first China local manufacturers turned to 0.33mm glass with AGC glass as prototype. At the first year, Xuhong and CSG was not stable although their price was very adorable. We were not willing to work with Xuhong and CSG until they improved their glass quality many times and it could compete with AGC. In 1st half year of 2016, Firstall switched our glass material supplier from AGC to Xuhong and CSG totally.
Firstall sent the both AGC | CSG 0.33mm glass raw material and finished 0.33mm glass protector to more than 5 customers without telling them in advance. 4 customers selected CSG as the better quality, the other 1 customer thought they are the same quality level.
Corning is a legend to most customers and tempered glass manufacturers. We rarely try Corning glass regarding the extraordinary high cost. Corning website shows their glass MOs ‘hardness is 6.0-6.5, which looks better than other glass. However, they won’t let you know that Corning 0.33mm glass purchasing price is 15-30 times higher than CSG. There was one customer asked us, is the Corning glass toughness 30 times better than CSG or Xuhong? CSG glass can pass 700mm steel ball drop test if it’s treated twice during the production. If the corning glass can pass 21meters steel ball drop test? Of course not. Glass is always glass. Currently, Firstall only manufactured very few custom size tempered glass screen protector with corning glass which was appointed by customers.
